Caught Dirty-Handed!

Since posting last Tuesday about the Dumpster Diver on Myrtle Drive, I received the following email on Friday from Anne:

“This man was in the garbage at 4515 Melody Drive about 2:30 p.m. today. He was driving a white truck. When he was told to get out of the garbage he said "I've got two kids." It took telling him twice more to get out of the garbage before he left.”

It appears to be the same man! We know stealing recyclables is illegal and we also know that he’s roaming the neighborhoods at night. Tomorrow starts another day of garbage collection for many of us. So here’s the question; Turn him in or let him go? Let me know what you think! If you decide we should turn him in then I will personally take the pictures and license plate number to Concord Disposal and speak to a supervisor since I've had no response to my online report.

Ann has furnished his license plate number to me but it has been removed from the above picture until you let me know what your thoughts are.

What's the harm. It all ends up getting recycled no matter who turns it in. Is he leaving a mess?

TURN HIM IN! I don't want this guy going through my garbage.

No he's not leaving a mess, just showing up in our neighborhood at 1:00 AM going through recyclables.

Anon 6:32, we are paying for these recyclables in our bill to Concord Disposal. It is not a free service.

turn him in!! If he is comfortable going through your garbage how soon until he is comfortable enough to go through your garage. I've had items stolen from me and it sucks.

looks like -- from the photos -- that he's on private property and has opened a gate to get to the dumpster... what's to stop him from opening a gate to get to your son's bike? so... while trash theft (i.e.: non-recyclables) might be legal, trespassing is not. looks like you have the plate number form the photo -- you should definitely turn him in... it's not that *he* shouldn't be there, *no one* should be there.

Turn him in. There was a FAMILY going through my neighbor's garbage last fall.

We put ours out in the morning, as we get up early enough to do that.

Different train of thought, but has anyone else noticed how "spotty" our recycle pick up is since they've gone to the new "system"? I've had to call numerous times as our street gets missed quite often.

Turn in him! When dumpster diving stops working, he will resort to stealing. If he can spend so much time/gas driving around collecting, he could get a job!

I think this guy raided the blue toters on Kirkwood awhile back and put what he didn't want in the garden waste (green) toter. Then when Concord Disposal came around they refused to take the garden waste on account of plastic crap. To make matters worse more than half of the blue toters' lids were left open so that any strong breeze would blow paper, etc. all over. This guy is a general nuisance. If he likes people's garbage that much perhaps he has a future with the Garaventa clan!

Turn this guy in!
He was at my dumpster last week Clayton Rd/Claycord Ave only I didn't get his plate number.
Not only was he trying to take all the cans he was going thru the garbage bags and had several bank statements in his hand.
I made him put it all back.

I say...let's help him. He is taking only discarded things, which means that they no longer are needed or wanted. I few years back we had some youth group organizations taking our recyclables in an effort to make enough money to go to camp. This fellow is just trying to provide for his family. Perhaps the recyclables could be placed in a labeled plastic bag for him, which would keep him from going through the dumpster. I say pay it forward and be grateful that it isn't your loved one having to resort to this in order to provide.

Just a quick comment... why are there even recyclables in the trash dumpsters? Do large complexes not have recycling receptacles? I know the thieves would hit those too, just wondering why so many recyclables get thrown in with the regular trash?

By the way, I vote to turn him in!

Turn him in. The police can talk to him and determine if he has priors and whether he is dangerous.

Let the pros do their work.

Do you know if the guy is just a father down on his luck? If so,you and your neighbors ought to save your recycables and give them to him ...then thank God you're not one of the hundreds of others who are in the same situation.I totally understand if he is somehow a threat to anyone....especially children in the area....but if he's just a guy down on his luck,it might make you feel really good to just help!

The truck is light silver (hand painted) that looks white. The license number is 5f56444 and it looks like it's a Ford Ranger pickup.
